Cynthia Clay-Briggs

Cynthia Clay Briggs grew up in Houston’s Kashmere Gardens, attended local schools, and returned to begin her career as a school social worker in HISD after graduating from Xavier University in 1975. Cynthia is a Licensed Master Social Worker and serves as an Adjunct Professor for the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston.

Cynthia Clay Briggs joined Communities in Schools (CIS) Houston at its inception in 1979 and currently leads the organization as the Executive Director. CIS Houston expanded under her leadership and has grown from one site in Houston Independent School District to include 110 locations in Aldine, Alief, Ft. Bend and Spring Branch Independent School Districts as well as additional charter school campuses. During the past year, CIS Houston served nearly 40,000 students and their families.
